The freeze is on. In many parts of New Zealand the mercury has struggled to get much above zero of late, with eastern parts of the South Island and central North Island plummeting to bone-chilling negative territory. While the chill factor is not as intense in our part of the country, temperatures indicate it’s time to take winter seriously.

In my last blog I waxed lyrical about the likes of flannelette sheets, dressing gowns, slippers, throws … the snuggly things to drape or dress yourself in, as you do in our coldest season. This time I’m focusing on creating a warm ambience in your house with things that may not feel warm to the touch but are champions at adding that welcoming warmth and cosy appeal. Such things include lamps, candles, rugs, pottery, baskets (for firewood or pinecones or storage of throws) and even furniture of a warm hue. Check out the chair I found at Hunter Furniture – it’s even called a “Snug” chair, and you can select your fabric.

Winter, while not generally considered most peoples’ favourite season, does come with many positives. That could be enjoying a fire, spa pool, or soak in a bath; or it could be about winter sport and cuisine. When I think winter, hearty food is most certainly front of mind, and so I’ve included a casserole dish in my product list, and a crockpot too. As I type this, I actually have a Moroccan casserole doing its thing in my crockpot. I have to say my crockpot is humble compared to the one I am featuring in this blog. It’s called a versatile multi-cooker that incorporates five appliances in one. You don’t need a separate rice cooker, steamer, or pressure cooker, for example, if you have this baby. And… it’s enjoying a significant sale price.

Anyways, wrap up warm and head down to Westgate Lifestyle and check out the numerous things available to add warmth to winter.
