3 WINTER COAT TRENDS TO TRY | THE PLAZA

Fashion

28 June 2021

Are you a summer person or a winter person? When it comes to fashion, I’m most definitely a summer gal, (it’s the Queenslander in me) so every winter I try really hard to find the trends that are going to make me enjoy the fashion… and I have to say, this winter has really come through with the goods!

From soft pastel tones and lovely neutrals to, “casual-chic” making it’s mark (thanks lockdown) there are SO many different ways to have fun with your style with the winter trends we have available to us right now.

Having fun with your style is a great way to express your personality, and updating your look with a on-trend piece or two will really help elevate your everyday style.

So here are three of my top coat trends to keep your eye out for and some ideas on where to get your hands on all the looks at your local The Plaza stores.

1. The Classic Camel Coat

Bye bye black – if you don’t have a camel coat on your shopping list right now, is it even winter? This is one of the strongest coat trends we’ve seen in a while.

Even though it’s a classic look, the camel coat has become more predominant this winter with the rise of the neutral palette.

And brunettes, if you thought this trend was just for blondes, think again! Pair your camel coat back with crisper neutrals like white and black for an up-to-date look in a colour way that still suits.

The Camel coat also looks great with lighter coloured jeans, a white knit and trainers – the perfect everyday smart/casual look.

Here are some of my faves!

State of play Coat from Farmers $199.99 | Max coat $299.99 | Portmans cape coat $179.99 | Just Jeans long teddy coat $159.99

2. The Shacket

Is it a shirt? Is it a jacket? We’ll it’s kinda both! The Shacket is pretty much a jacket, shaped like a button up shirt, but in a thicker, more coat-like fabric.

It’s a great layering piece that can work instead of a cardigan as either that middle layer (under a coat) or on its own as a slightly warmer top layer (like a jacket).

This style is quite over-sized and can be boxy so if you want a slightly neater fit, I’d suggest sizing down.

The Shacket shaped coat will fit right into the ‘casual/chic’ look that is so big right now, pair her back with some jogger-style pants, a fitted knit and trainers or flat boots.

3. The Puffer Jacket

I hate to say this (puffer jackets are not part of my personal style), but the puffer is no longer just for mums watching kids sport on the weekend, it’s made its way into mainstream fashion  with the prevalence of the “sport luxe” look that is so popular right now.

We’re seeing puffer jackets in every shape, colour and length, from high end designers to the cheap and cheerful department stores.

While they are super-practical for New Zealand winters, if you want to add a fashion edge to your puffer, try elevating the rest of your outfit. Style your puffer over a knitted dress with some flat boots, or pair back with some wet-look black jeans and white leather trainers.

If you want to try this look, check out these puffers from The Plaza.

Jay Jays short puffer $70.00 | Kmart longline puffer vest $38.00 | Zest longline puffer jacket from Farmers $159.99

There are many options for keeping warm and fashionable this winter, now the only question to ask yourself is which look are you going to try first?

Until Next Time

Happy Shopping!
