KIA ORA! WELCOME TO THE BASE

At The Base, we want everyone to have an easy and pleasant experience, whether you are shopping, grabbing a bite, catching a movie or meeting up with friends.  Staff have received training and we have achieved a Be.Welcome Gold rating for accessibility as assessed through Be.Lab.  Here are a few of the facilities and services in place to ensure that all customers can access the centre and enjoy their time here.  Or, scroll down to see this information in New Zealand Sign Language.

ACCESSIBLE BATHROOMS AND 'SPACE TO CHANGE': OUR BRAND NEW FULLY ACCESSIBLE BATHROOM

For your convenience, we have a separate accessible bathroom in each of our toilet areas – located in Te Awa near the foodcourt and near the main entrance, in The Base Outlet, near the outdoor playground and in the outdoor shopping area, between Nandos and Looksharp.

Located in our new amenity block on level 1 near Hoyts and Jagotown, our brand new ‘Space to Change’ is a fully accessible bathroom, designed and built to suit those with more complex needs not met by a standard accessible toilet.  This room includes shower, adjustable, adult-sized change table and hoist – your own sling is required.  We are delighted to have this facility in the centre, and support all members of our community to participate in everyday activities with and without care assistants.  Access the Space to Change bathroom via the lifts at the northern end of Te Awa, opposite Paper Plus.  The room has an intercom system for easy access.

PARENTS ROOMS

Wherever you are, there is a space to change or feed your young children.

Full parent’s rooms including change tables, nappy disposal, handwashing facilities, microwave, breastfeeding facilities and child-sized toilets are situated in Te Awa near the foodcourt and on level 1 near Jagotown and Hoyts, in The Base Outlet and in the outdoor shopping area, between Nandos and Looksharp.  Change tables are also available within accessible bathrooms situated in Te Awa near the main entrance and near the outdoor playground.

The entire site is breastfeeding friendly.

ACCESSIBLE, 65+ AND PARENTS' PARKING

Giving all of our customers the opportunity to shop, dine and be entertained is important to us. Most of our parking is level, with lift access from basement carparks.  Dedicated parking is provided for customers with accessibility permits, for parents of young children and for shoppers aged 65+.

Find accessibility, parents’ and 65+ parks in the following locations:

  • Near mall entrances in the basement carpark (look for blue lights overhead)
  • Outside:  Gloria Jeans, Farmers, Number 1 Shoes, Mac Pac, The Warehouse, Sports Safari, Kiwi Bank, Briscoes, ASB, AMI, Heathcotes, Citta Design and beside the playground.

Cars parked in clearly marked accessible parks without an appropriate permit are liable to be ticketed.

SITE ACCESSIBILITY, CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EQUIPMENT HIRE

The Base is well lit with wide and level walkways both inside Te Awa and outside, in the external shopping area.  External walkways are partially sheltered and all crossings are level or accessible via ramp.  Lighting levels provide good visibility and directional signage is high contrast and appropriately designed to aid visibility too.  Service animals are welcome at The Base.

Digital Directories are situated near the foodcourt and at the northern end of the centre at the top of the travelator.  Directory information can be enlarged for low sight customers, step by step directions sent to your device and a headphone plug is also available.

Our Customer Service Desk is located inside Te Awa at the main entrance near Spark.  Our Customer Service, Management and Security staff are always happy to assist!  Also visit Customer Service to borrow wheelchairs, walker or strollers.  Passport or Driver’s Licence is required and equipment is on a first-in-first-served basis.

The Base Management and staff are committed to continually improving access to the centre and welcome your feedback and suggestions.  We look forward to seeing you here soon.
