Support True Colours

True Colours supports Waikato families who have a child with a serious health condition.  We believe no family should have to manage their child’s serious illness on their own.

When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, life as a family once knew it can change in an instant. This news can be devastating for the family, the impact far reaching, often, the future unknown.  Anxiety and fear are familiar emotions experienced by the child’s siblings and parents, as well as the child with the illness. Parents often provide ‘hospital level care’ in the home. Many children are reliant on technology for their nutrition and respiratory support.  This way of living is unfathomable for most of us.  Families caring for their children with serious illnesses face many daily challenges, telling us they often feel alone.

To help reduce the aloneness and distress felt by families, True Colours provides a free specialised service focussed on supporting the whole family to build the strength, courage and resiliency they need to face the different challenges that serious illness brings with it.  Our support includes counselling, nursing oversight, bereavement support, advocacy and child-based therapies such as art, music and play.  Families appreciate being able to talk things through with a team specialised in caring for those impacted by a child’s serious illness.

You helped me through the hardest time in my life and I couldn’t be more grateful” – True Colours client
