Description
What is Matariki?
The star cluster Matariki appears in our night sky during June - July signifying the close of the old lunar new year and marks the beginning of the Maori New Year.

Woven Histories at Sylvia Park
In celebration of Matariki, Sylvia Park has commissioned a photographic exhibition by Shona Tawhiao, a talented local artist who specialises in weaving. 'Woven Histories' encompasses a mix of the past, present and future in a display unrivalled in the Fashion & Library Sphere. Here, Tawhiao transforms ancestral korero into extravagant yet elegant personifications of the tūpuna whetū we know as Matariki.
Come see for yourself the intricate garments that Tawhiao has woven with her skillful hands.
