If you've noticed that all too familiar bite in the air, you'll know that autumn has arrived and winter won't be too far behind. Now is a good time to plan out your winter wardrobe and take note of what you don't yet have so we've curated a few key pieces that have both trend-appeal and staying power for the months and seasons to come:

1: The classic biker jacket with a twist

It’s the style you know and love with a textural point of difference.

A biker jacket style is edgy and timeless but what’s nice about this season’s offerings are the array of fabric options from buttery suede to classic leather or leather with sherpa trim.

2: The all-rounder black shoulder bag

Step aside tote bags, handbags are in.

Oversized totebags are perfect for lugging around beach towels and spare changes but the cooler months call for a more refined accessory.  In true Kiwi style, the classic black handbag is making a welcome return to add less bulk to your look.

3: The fine knit sweater with x-factor

The perfect layering piece just got cooler.

Every wardrobe should have at least one classic sweater to wear under jackets or around the office. These options take the plain sweater and give it a modern twist with the addition of a crosslaced front, crossover back or back split. Proof that even a simple sweater can feel chic and edgy.

4: The coated black pant

It’s the same black pant but not as you know it.

How do you stay within the boundaries of timeless style but push the envelope a little too? With a coated black pant. That is, the classic black pant we know and love finished in a sateen, suede or wet-look fabric and if you’re really daring, try leather!

5. The slim-straight jean

Sometimes referred to as the girlfriend jean or the slim-straight.

We’re starting to see a shift away from skinny leg denim and towards close-fitting styles with a slightly less tapered leg. The overall look has a 90s vibe and dances with a slightly more casual-feel too which is easily jazzed up with pumps or ankle booties.

6. The long tailored coat

Sophisticated yet uncomplicated.

No bells or whistles here, just a lovely wool coat that is the perfect throw-on over casual jeans with sneakers or a sparkly evening dress and stilettos. For longevity go for a midi-length in black, navy or camel.

7. The suede boot

Either short or long this boot is here to stay.

Suede boots are back in a big way and offer an added element of both texture and personality to simple styles. Perfect for livening up plain cropped pants or for adding drama to a floaty skirt.
