(L-r) DWAYNE JOHNSON as Krypto and JOHN KRASINSKI as Superman in Warner Bros. Pictures’ animated action adventure “DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

DC League of Super-Pets has underlying themes around best friends, family and teamwork.   So it was very fitting that my seven year old son saw this with his best friend, his dad and myself this Father’s Day.  Armed with lots of popcorn, we had a fun couple of hours with lots of laughs that hit the mark for both kids and adults.

This aminated action packed adventure is centred around Krypto ‘Superman’s dog’ (voiced by Dwayne Johnson – The Rock) and Superman who live in Metropolis and are a crime fighting duo.  Clark Kent (aka Superman) though thinks it is time for Krypto to have a friend so heads to the animal shelter to try to find him one.  Though in the pet shelter there is Lulu the guinea pig, who we learn was once a “test” guinea pig at LexCorp – owned by bad guy Lex Luther.  Lulu manages to get a piece of orange kryptonite that gives her and the rest of the animals in the shelter superpowers.

(L-R) KEVIN HART as Ace and DWAYNE JOHNSON as Krypto in Warner Bros. Pictures’ animated action adventure “DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

Lulu now strong and powerful captures Superman.  Krypto though can’t save his friend, as he loses his powers by eating cheese laced with green kryptonite planted by Lulu.  Lulu manages to recruit more guinea pigs who too become powerful and they end up capturing the rest of the Justice League (including Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash).

So who can save Superman and the Justice League? Well, Krypto enlists the help of his new buddies from the Animal Shelter including the very likable Ace (dog) and some other fun-loving animals.  Can they do it?  Go check it out for yourself and see if ‘good’ wins over evil.

(L-R) DIEGO LUNA as Chip, VANESSA BAYER as PB, DWAYNE JOHNSON as Krypto, KEVIN HART as Ace and NATASHA LYONNE as Merton in Warner Bros. Pictures’ animated action adventure “DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS,” a Warner Bros.

My son gave this movie a strong seven out of ten.  His favourite part included the scene with Ace and Wonder Woman’s invisible plane.

This is a gem of a movie for the school holidays coming up early next month.  Enjoy!
