THE BEAUTY OF WINTER

Lifestyle

29 July 2019

I’ve just returned from a dart across the ditch to Surfers Paradise. The purpose was to support my son’s college rugby tour… and to wrap myself in some winter warmth, Gold Coast style.

Upon my return I’m fielding plenty of comments along the lines of “you must be finding it so hard to come back to a New Zealand winter.”  But, I am not. I love seasonal variance. With winter comes the time to light my fire, fill baskets with pinecones, make hearty soups, pull out my delicious array of scarves, snuggle up under a throw, and smile in delight when crisp mornings morph into blue sky days.

Besides all that, our winter makes our summer seem all the more wonderful. Of course, it helps if you have the requisite trappings to make winter more comfortable… like plug in or light-a-match heating, throws, duvets, snuggly dressing gowns and hot water bottles, for example. Winter is the perfect season for creating cosy ambiance and so my product selection includes the likes of mood lighting options, throws, rugs and other warm décor touches. My selection also includes a bread maker (beautiful breads to accompany soups and to mop up casserole juices) and, in a nod to one of my sons, a dehumidifier. Said son is a Victoria University student living in a damp flat where his clothes are growing mould. A dehumidifier has come to his rescue, although, right now I’m sure he’d fancy a clothes-shopping and sun-seeking trip to the Gold Coast!  Happy shopping back home.
