STORAGE SUCCESS | WESTGATE LIFESTYLE

The first time my husband ever mentioned spring cleaning I cheekily replied: “is that actually a thing?”

Up until meeting him I’d lived in student flats where spring cleaning was so NOT a thing, obviously. Fast forward scores of years and he’s still the only one who musters up any enthusiasm for it! He’s the cleaning maestro, whereas I am the make-it-look-good person and tidy upperer. I took my tidying up tendencies to a new level just recently when I decided to go through all the wardrobes in the house and store things away in a cohesive fashion – all the stuffed toys together, all the puzzles, all the board games, all the chargers, all the photo albums… you get the picture. And boy does it feel good. It’s not just that everything looks tidier, it’s also the knowing exactly where everything is, and I have discovered that feeling that extra bit organised is a very satisfying feeling.

Of course, all this tidying up and sorting is a lot easier if you have adequate storage. My home is a renovated house so doesn’t include an ideal/abundant amount of storage space. That’s why the items I have displayed in this blog have been helpful. The timber bed with room underneath to buy (separately) matching drawers; the ottoman with the flip lid, the buffet, the wonderful array of baskets available at many Westgate lifestyle stores… right down to the coat hanger to house scarves (I am off to buy one of those, which will free up a shelf in my wardrobe). And, who even knew there was such a thing as a slimline unit for shoe storage. Boom. Here’s hoping this inspires some of you – you may even push the boat out and clean as you go!
