COLOUR YOUR WORLD

Lifestyle

Flicking through magazines at the hairdressers last week I learnt that orange is the new black. This was in the style edition of Next magazine, so I am taking this as gospel.

A colourful collection of cushions

I had a love affair with orange back in the days when I was too young to know about love affairs.

My primary school (actually, I was crushing on someone way back then, now I think of it) lunch box, for example, was orange and I was so happy about that.

Orange doesn’t feature as significantly in my life now, but that colourful little snippet of style news got me thinking about pops of colour in my décor … and my summer wardrobe, which I like to think I will wear at some stage this year (still wearing winter woolies as I write this).

Adding a splash of colour to your home doesn’t have to be a big, expensive exercise and often it’s the littlest touches that go a long way. If you do have a hankering for a colourful cushion, throw, occasional chair, ottoman, lighting detail, wall art etc then rest assured Westgate Lifestyle stores are in your corner.

There are plenty of pops of colour contributors out there. I was especially excited by the bright blue Ottoman I found at NOOD – and it has an orange cousin. Both are just gorgeously colourful. And what about that umbrella emblazoned with flamingos – it may not be as bright as some of the other products featured but it’s wonderfully whimsical, I think, and a change from the green, black and taupe that seem to dominate the outdoor umbrella colour spectrum.

If you have little people in your home, it’s likely they’ll love the bright (of course) elephant shower curtain – it’s an inexpensive item to add to the house for a little fun. And that’s one of the wonderful things about pops of colour… they are fun and cheerful.

On the dreary day in which I am writing this, that sounds just like a tonic. Colour up, I say!
