AN (ALMOST) WINTER WONDERLAND OF ESSENTIALS | GET THE LOOK | SYLVIA PARK

05 May 2020

Well done New Zealand, we made it through level 4 of the lockdown and we are slowly coming out the other side.

While the amazing retailers at  SYLVIA PARK are not able to serve you in person, you can still support the brands you love by either heading to their online stores (HERE) or creating a list of things for when you can visit again.

One of the many things that has changed in the last little while is the season! We’re now starting to see the winter trends come through in our stores so I put together a list of my top winter essentials to keep you warm and stylish as the temperatures drop.

These pieces can become staples in your wardrobe, can get heaps of use out of, and won’t just last one season.

1. The Coat
We wear coats almost everyday in some parts of the country so choosing one that you LOVE is really important.

Whether black is your preference, or you want to use this opportunity to express your love for a certain colour, look for a coat where the shape works best for your body.

2. The Accessory
I was going to just say ‘the scarf’ but there are so many other cool winter accessories around. If hats are your bag, look for a felt fedora, or a fun beanie.

You might also want to change up your winter looks with a new handbag, or a fab belt. So many options!

3. The Boots
EVERYONE in New Zealand should have at least one pair of ankle boots in their wardrobe. They are, in my expert opinion, the most versatile shoe you can have.

Wear them with bare legs and dresses when it’s not too cold, and then start to layer up with thick tights, or even under pants as the temperatures drop (and the rain starts!)

Choose a bold colour (my current go-to is pink) but black is always versatile.

4. The Colour
Again, winter is no excuse to default to black. There are so many gorgeous colours around, why not get some joy on those bleak, cold days?!

In my mind THE most important way to choose a colour is whether you feel good in it. If you do and you love it, you’re going to look amazing.

5. The Fabric
Merino is your friend. No matter where you are in the country, a little bit of the warm-woollen-stuff won’t go astray.

Use it as a base layer in a cami, or socks, or start to layer with merino tops. You can even go all out and look for a merino dress, skirt or pair of pants!

This fine fabric is a delight to wear and doesn’t have to be bulky at all.

Here are some of my faves from the lovely SYLVIA PARK retailers with online stores while we are in level 3.

SYLVIA PARK: Decjuba hot pink “Carly” blazer | Seed grey scarf | Witchery wool felt hat | Zara camel coat | Max merino silk blend turtle neck | Mi Piaci black leather ankle boots

I hope this gives you some good ideas where to start on your winter wardrobe. And it’s really important that we all support our local retailers here in NZ, so jump online HERE, and when you can, pop in and say hi again!

And if you are looking for gift ideas (or ways to support our local retailers and workers once we safely open again)…how about a Kiwi Property gift card? You can order them instantly to your email or theirs, and they can be used at over 800 stores across our 6 shopping centres nationwide once we are safe to shop. Click HERE to purchase.
