If you’re in the mood for a light, breezy pick-me-up, this is the one for you!

Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris to seek a dress, and you say what’s the big deal, so did everybody else in the 1950s, right? But wait, the twist is that Mrs. Harris is not one of the rich and famous, but their cleaning lady! So how could she dare to dream of a Dior dress? Especially in the times when dresses were not available to purchase online but were custom-made to fit the buyer exclusively!

Well,  through a lot of elbow grease, penny-pinching, the help of her friends, a reward for honesty, as well as some plain luck…. she’s finally got the financials sorted. But then she has to run the gauntlet of traditions and ‘culture’ (aka snobbery) of people to be allowed to even get into the House of Dior to look at dresses, order the one that she wants and have it made, all while helping out her saviors in turn to change the entire future of the House of Dior.

But she gets her dress and looks gloriously righteous in it!

I loved seeing how they stuck to the details of the era the movie is set in (unlike Bridgerton!). And the glimpse of post-World War realities in England and France is a good reminder that we can still find little joys in the midst of hard times. ‘Dare to Dream, no matter who you are, what you think you can or can’t have …’ is one of the key messages of the movie, along with ‘Don’t fight change, just find your silver lining in it!’

And in case you were wondering, there really was a waste collectors’ strike in Paris in the 1950s and several times since then it seems!

This is definitely a movie that will make you smile and leave with a light heart. If you are more a Cohen brothers person, give this one a miss… or maybe give it a go to see if you might yet be ‘saved’
